Transformations involve the changing of a shape's or point's orientation and/or size
Here is a link for Khan Academy that covers Transformations, Congruence and Similarity
Reflection
Flipping a figure, like a mirror Things to remember Size and shape stays the same Reflection line Distance from the reflection line stays the same |
|
Rotations
Turning a figure Things to remember Size and shape stays the same Direction- clockwise or counter clockwise How much- degrees Center of rotation- what are you turning around |
|
Translation
Sliding a figure Things to remember Size and shape stays the same Every point moves the same direction and amount |
|
Dialation Making a figure bigger or smaller, like getting your eyes dilated Things to remember Shape stays the same, size may change Scale factor Dilate by multiplication Center of dilation Additional resources Finding scale factor https://learnzillion.com/lesson_plans/8479-calculate-the-scale-factor-of-a-dilation |
|
Similarity and Congruence
Congruence is when 2 figures are identical to each other.
They may be rotated, reflected, translated or dilated with a scale factor of 1. Similarity means the 1) shapes are the same and 2) corresponding side are proportional. |

Angle Relationships with Parallel Lines and Transversals
This shows the angle relationships created by parallel lines
